With 16 square miles of open sea, the English Riviera is one of the UK’s finest coastal water sport locations with the Bay itself providing an excellent arena for recreational boating and water sports.

Our coastal waters are vitally important to the sustainable future of our local community so it’s really important we promote safety in the Bay so that everyone can enjoy this valued asset.

Plan ahead

Wear a life jacket

Boating and watersports can be unpredictable. If you find yourself in the water, a correctly fitted lifejacket could be your lifesaver!

Engine and fuel checks

Regularly service your engine and always check you have more than enough fuel for the trip.

Keep in touch

Tell someone ashore where you are going and when you’ll be back – they will raise the alarm if you are overdue.

Calling for help

VHF is best because you are broadcasting to others on the water who may be able to assist. Flares are essential too.

Weather and tides

Always check forecasts and tide times before heading out – up-to-date details can be found at the local Harbour Office.
